September 3, 2008 Thirty-two poodle and terrier-mix dogs are being cared for at the BC SPCA's Chilliwack Branch after being seized from a Lower Mainland breeder. The BC SPCA says it is pleased with the 10-year ban on obtaining new animals handed down to Texada Island resident Doris Chambers after she pled guilty in a Powell River court to causing distress to animals. January 14, 2005A judge sentenced Richmond resident Ameer Shakur to one day in jail and prohibited him from owning animals for five years yesterday after he was found guilty of causing distress to animals under the BC Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.  December 2, 2004A local farmer has been convicted of animal cruelty in Richmond provincial court. Ameer Shakur was charged after officers from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals seized nearly 100 sheep and goats from his farm at No. 5 and Blundell roads in March 2003. Peter and Antonia Rooyakkers of Texada Island were charged on November 2 with causing distress to animals under the provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

August 30, 2004Crown Counsel has approved charges against Lisa and Claudette Carver of Port Coquitlam under the Provincial Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, the B.C. SPCA announced Friday. August 5, 2004When Spud, an Akita-Shepherd cross, had a run in with a porcupine last week the dog ended up with almost 1,000 quills in her face and body, including three in the eye. January 2004A woman convicted of animal cruelty in two separate 'puppy mill' investigations carried out by the BC SPCA has received stiff sentences for her crimes in a Chilliwack court. Marcy Ryan of Agassiz appeared in court on January 20 and 23, where she was sentenced to pay the maximum fine allowed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act ($2,000) for each of the two convictions. In January and June 2001 SPCA animal protection officers carried out two separate cruelty investigations, seizing 23 severely neglected dogs from Marcy Ryan, who was then living in Agassiz.
