Not All Practices are Created Equal - buyer beware!! All veterinary facilities are required to undergo practice facility inspection to ensure that the facility meets the practice standards as set out by the British Columbia Veterinary Medical Association. Once these standards are met to the satisfaction of the BCVMA, a certificate of Practice Accreditation is issued. While this ensures that minimum practice standards have been met, there is no obligation for these standards to be adhered to over time. At present there is a plethora of new practices that have opened that apparently offer the panacea of "get something for nothing". Extremely low price surgical procedures and extremely low priced or even free preventative health care services are often boldly advertised. Of course we all know that there is "no free lunch" in life. At Valley Veterinary Services we voluntarily adhere to all of the practice standards as laid out by this licensing body in order to do all we can to maximize patient safety and give you quality assurance. Why do we do this? Because we take the greatest pride in our work and feel honoured to be part of this proud and respected profession. The low cost facilities have adopted different methods in order to cut corners and costs and use spays and neuters as a "loss leader" in order to attract business. As with any "loss leader" it must be paid for by hiding these prices in the price of other goods and services purchased. This is common marketplace commerce that is inherantly dishonest and unprofessional. It would be folly to assume that if one facility is charging the "going rate" for spays and neuters and a cut-rate facility is charging less than half this price that both are performing the same procedure. One should not assume that all spays are done the same way by all facilities. Consider what assurances that you have when you bring your pet to such a cut-rate facility. When your pet needs surgery or medical care at Valley Veterinary Services, we will spend the time needed for you to fully understand all of your care options and the costs associated. We will give you a detailed estimate of costs. If you desire, a tour of the facility is always available. We will never cut corners or compromise your pets health before, during or after the procedure. After your pets procedure, we will discuss post-operative care in detail and will always give you written care instructions to re-inforce what was discussed. We will always followup with you in the days following the procedure to ensure that recovering is proceeding as expected. We will make your pets rapid, successfull and pain free recovery our number one priority. We voluntarily adhere to BCVMA standards such that you can have confidence in the quality of care we provide. Our success and reputation has been built on providing this quality care over many years. |
